Sample Yearly Events

FHE works hard to support Christian homeschooling families in the greater Saint John area, but we also know that there is nothing that can take the important place of support from fellow homeschoolers.  To encourage community-building among homeschool families, we hold a variety of events aimed at getting people together to meet and get to know one another. This list will grow or shrink as our volunteer base allows.

Weekly Classes & Events

  • Swimming Lessons Learn valuable swimming skills during the school day.  These eight to ten week sessions are intended for school-age homeschool children, organized by parents, and run by professionals.  Student sign-up is required in order to attend.  We advise parents with young children in class to remain on site during swimming.

  • Gym Classes - Through a unique partnership with a local private school, FHE  students have been welcome to join in regular weekly gym class for a minimal fee.  Students are divided into three classes, grade 1-3, grades 4-7 and grade 8-10.  These classes run on a year-to-year basis and may not be offered every year. This year they are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Annual Events

Here are some of the events we have done in the past. They may not be offered each year. See something missing?  We’d be happy to hear your ideas on something new you are interested in organizing.

  • Canadian Heritage Fair

  • Christmas Craft Day

  • Literacy Day

  • School Pictures

  • Science Fair

  • Ski Trips

  • Track and Field Day

  • Valentine’s Day Party

  • Year End Picnic or Field Trips

Monthly Support Meetings for Parents (Teachers’ Lounge)

  • Teachers’ Lounge meetings are held almost every month.  We meet as parents to discuss all things homeschool.  From methods to best practices, challenges to curriculum, we talk about it all both formally and informally.

We typically enjoy a parent only evening geared towards encouragement and support.  We’ll have a short Bible study suited to address the spiritual needs of homeschoolers, specific teaching about homeschooling methods or assistance, and time for fellowship, short devotional, a presentation from a colleague, and a review of the months activities.

If you are interested in joining our group, you are welcome to come to these meetings before you apply for membership to see if our group would be a good fit for your family.

Sample Yearly Event List

This list is a sample only and is far from complete. It is intended to give you an idea of the opportunities available to your children and to spark your involvement in our community. Many field trips and events may not be listed because they vary each year.
